My Blood Of The Covenant

Mark 14:23-24 - And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 1 Corinthians 10:16 - The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Jeremiah 31:31-34 - “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Luke 22:20 - And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. Exodus 24:8 - And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.” Application: · The Lord’s Supper is to remind us of Him. · As the old covenant was celebrated by the blood of sacrificial animals, so the new would be celebrated by the blood of Christ. · The new covenant does not abolish the old but supersedes it in the sense that through the new covenant the old is fulfilled and its purpose achieved. · I will forgive…their sins is the glorious basis of the new covenant. · New covenant was promised through the prophet Jeremiah—the fuller administration of God’s saving grace, founded on and sealed by the death of Jesus. · Only after I agree to obey the Lord can I participate in His covenant.
