Hebrews 12:2 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 2:9-10 - But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
Hebrews 13:13 - Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.
Isaiah 53:11-12 - Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
Philippians 2:5-7 - Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Matthew 5:10 - “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 – For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Application:
· Through His atoning work, Christ’s perfection will lead to my perfection
· I am made God’s child through God’s only Son
· Jesus tasted death as a work of God’s grace alone on my behalf. Jesus fulfills God’s great plan for me.
· Am I willing to be disgraced by turning unequivocally to Christ?
· Christ has made me righteous and has taken on all my iniquities
· Christ makes intercession for me, securing my acceptance before God
· If my life is to be lived for God, my mind must reflect on Christ
· Christ’s love drove Him to a position of weakness for me
· Do I value God above everything in the world?
· By comparison, eternal glory is far greater than all the suffering I may face in this life
