By No Human Hand

Daniel 2:32-34,44-45 - The head of this image was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its middle and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces…And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold. A great God has made known to the king what shall be after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”


Zechariah 4:6 - Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

Psalm 2:9 - You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”

Application:

· God’s Word to Zerubbabel is a reminder that the obstacles I face will not be overcome by conventional resources but by an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
· The stone that will break in pieces all kingdoms is Christ, the One in whom God plans to unite all things in His glorious kingdom
· Christ will triumphantly rule and dash to pieces the nations

Sit At My Right Hand

Hebrews 1:10-13 - He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” To which of the angels did God ever say, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?


Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Psalm 110:1 - The LORD says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

Hebrews 10:12-13 - But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.

Hebrews 12:1-2 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Application:

· Jesus Christ is eternally trustworthy in His position as High Priest and as Son of God
· Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God the Father
· Christ’s sacrifice atoned for all sins of all time, making any further sacrifice unnecessary
· Through His atoning work, Christ’s perfection will lead to my perfection, which will be fully realized on the last day

Your Mighty Hand

Nehemiah 1:10-2:3 - “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king. In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before, so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid, but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”

Exodus 32:11 - But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God. “LORD,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?

Daniel 2:4 - Then the astrologers answered the king, “May the king live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”

Application:

· Even though I have sinned and failed, I am still one of God's people by virtue of His redeeming me.
· Do I seek the favor of the Lord my God?
· Do I delight in revering His name?
