Rejoice

Deuteronomy 12:7,12,18 – There, in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you…And there rejoice before the Lord your God—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites from your towns who have no allotment or inheritance of their own…Instead, you are to eat them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place the Lord your God will choose—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites from your towns—and you are to rejoice before the Lord your God in everything you put your hand to.

Nehemiah 8:10 – Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Application:

  • ·         The Lord wants His people to enjoy the fruit of their labor, because it is the result of His blessing.
  • ·         Joy, based on the Lord’s blessings, was to be a major feature of Hebrew life and worship in the promised land.
  • ·         It was customary for God’s people to remember the less fortunate on joyous occasions.
