Son Of Man

Mark 10:39-45 - And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 8:31 - And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. Application: · Is my life characterized by humble and loving service? · Jesus gave His life to release me from bondage to sin and death. · The Son of Man, Jesus, is entrusted by God with authority, glory and sovereign power. Gospel

Mark 10:26-30 - And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. Matthew 4:19 - And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Mark 1:1 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Application: · Am I attempting to enter the kingdom on the basis of my achievements or merits? · Evangelism was at the heart of Jesus’ call to His disciples. · The good news is that God has provided salvation through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Kingdom Of God

Mark 10:24-25 - And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Luke 16:22-23,30 - The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side…And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ Application: · For the rich to enter the kingdom of God is impossible, humanly speaking. · Entering the kingdom of God is not easy. · If a person’s mind is closed and Scripture is rejected, no evidence—not even a resurrection—will change him. Son Of Man

Mark 9:30-32 - They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it. Acts 3:13 - The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. Mark 8:31-33 - He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again…But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Application: · Have I disowned Jesus, voted against Him, spurned Him, denied Him or refused to acknowledge Him? · The Son of Man is pictured as a heavenly figure who in the end times is entrusted by God with authority, glory and sovereign power. · Peter’s attempt to dissuade Jesus from going to the cross held the same temptation Satan gave at the outset of Jesus’ ministry, so Jesus severely rebuked him. When He Comes In His Father's Glory

Mark 8:31,35-38 - And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again…For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” John 12:25 - Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 - This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering—since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. Application: · Physical life may be saved by denying Jesus, but eternal life will be lost. · Do I love my life here and now? Do I concentrate on my own success? · Am I more concerned about fitting into and pleasing my own adulterous and sinful generation than about following and pleasing Christ? · The Son of Man is pictured as a heavenly figure who in the end times is entrusted by God with authority, glory and sovereign power. · Those who do not know God refers to those who refuse to recognize Him. The gospel invites acceptance, and rejection is disobedience. · Is the Lord’s glory seen in what I am? All Scripture verses taken from ESV

Follow Me

Mark 8:32-34 - And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Matthew 10:38 - And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Application: · Peter’s attempt to dissuade Jesus from going to the cross held the same temptation Satan gave at the outset of Jesus’ ministry, so Jesus severely rebuked him. · Have I ceased to make me the object of my life and actions? Am I willing to suffer and die for the Lord’s sake? · Am I totally committed to follow Jesus? All Scripture verses taken from ESV
