Ezra 5:3-5 - At that time Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates went to them and asked, “Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and to finish it?” They also asked, “What are the names of those who are constructing this building?” But the eye of their God was watching over the elders of the Jews, and they were not stopped until a report could go to Darius and his written reply be received.
Ezra 4:12 - The king should know that the people who came up to us from you have gone to Jerusalem and are rebuilding that rebellious and wicked city. They are restoring the walls and repairing the foundations.
2 Kings 25:28 - He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.
Ezra 8:22 - I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.”
Application:
· Do I switch my loyalties when pressured?
· Do I give those chosen of God the benefit of the doubt?
· Do I proclaim my faith in God’s abilities and then try to depend on man’s (or my) abilities?
